Weihnachtsbaumschmückwettbewerb 2025

On Wednesday, 17 December 2025, around 100 University of Lübeck employees gathered in the small wooded area in front of the Audimax for the second Christmas Get-Together, featuring a Christmas Tree Decorating Competition.
For the second edition of the event, the organising team went above and beyond, transforming the wooded area into a cosy little "winter forest."

With hot punch, pizza, and roasted almonds, a festive and cheerful atmosphere quickly filled the air.
Following a welcome speech by President Prof. Braun, the event officially began. Participants were first treated to an impressive fire poi performance by an experienced University Sports instructor.
At 5:45 p.m., a short competition briefing was held before the ringing of the bell officially signalled the start of the contest.
The teams then had 30 minutes to decorate their Christmas trees. Afterwards, each team proudly presented its creation to the judging panel, while everyone eagerly awaited the results.
Every tree reflected remarkable creativity and enthusiasm, making each one truly unique.

While the jury withdrew to decide which team would take home the travelling trophy, participants gathered in the square to sing Christmas carols together, accompanied by the live band.
The award ceremony was led by Chancellor Ms Magens, and every team received a small gift in recognition of their participation.
Before announcing the overall winners, President Prof. Braun introduced a Special Award for the Most Sustainable Christmas Tree. This prize went to a team that had decorated its tree with a leek—already well known from the previous University Run—which was later destined to become part of a Christmas soup, perfectly highlighting the spirit of sustainability.

The travelling trophy was ultimately awarded to the Physiotherapy team. Although they started the competition with only two team members, they were joined by visitors from four generations, who helped decorate their tree and contributed to their winning entry.
Congratulations to the winners, and a heartfelt thank you to all participating teams for their creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment.

The event was a wonderful way to come together at the end of the year, and we are already looking forward to celebrating with everyone again next year.

We wish everyone a relaxing holiday season and a joyful, peaceful Christmas.
